Pipe Major Danny Boyle
Danny been competitively involved in pipe bands for almost 20 years. Beginning his piping career at Nunawading Pipe Band he was greatly influenced by the creative talents and abilities of Mark Saul, which saw him progress rapdily in his solo performances. He was an integral part of Nunawading's progress in competition to be a major force in the local pipe band scene.
In 1994, after returning from Scotland where he competed in the Grade 1 World Pipe Band Championships with Nunawading, Danny joined the Victoria Police Pipe Band where he excelled under the leadership and direction of Pipe Major Inspector Nat Russell. Danny was a valued member of the Victoria Police Pipe Band, maintaining a high standard in his piping which was evident on both the "Master Blasters" CD and on the bands last CD "The Master Blasters Concert....Live in Motherwell".
Travelling annually to the World Championships with the Victoria Police Pipe Band, which included tours of Australia, England, and the United States. Danny competed and performed in live concerts with the band. This culminated in 1998, performing at the world renowned Motherwell concert, and 3 days later winning the Grade 1 World Championships @ Glasgow Green, Scotland.
Successfully competing in Open piping competitions within Australia and also has a number of compositions to his credit. Two time winner of the Australasian Piping Final (2001, 2002), earning the right to represent Australia in the MacCallan Trophy in Lorient, France.
June 2001, saw Danny return to Nunawading as Pipe Major. Since taking over the band he, together with his brother Alistair (Drum Major) have successfully taken Nunawading from Grade 3 to be now one the premier pipe bands in Australasia. Also establishing a Grade 4 band and learners program, ensuring the long and continued success of the Nunawading Pipe Band.
