Drum Major Alistair Boyle
Alistair been competitively involved in pipe bands for almost 15 years. Unlike his two elder brothers, Alistair chose to learn the drums instead of the pipes. At the age of 9, he joined the Nunawading Pipe Band where he rapidly progressed under the tuition of Drum Sergeant Ernie Scullion. At the tender age of 13 Alistair competed in the Grade 1 arena at the World Pipe Band Championships for Nunawading.
In September 1994, Alistair joined the Victoria Police Pipe Band. With guidance and tuition from both Paul Turner and Harold GIllespie, he quickly established himself as an integral component of the Victoria Police drum corps.
Travelling annually to the World Championships with the Victoria Police Pipe Band, which included tours of Australia, Jakarta, England and the United States. Alistair competed and performed in concerts with the band. This culminated in 1998, performing the world renowned Motherwell concert, and 3 days later winning the Grade 1 World Pipe Band Championships @ Glasgow Green , Scotland.
In 1999, Alistair took over as leading drummer at Williamstown RSL Pipe Band, where he built an unbeaten corps, including winning the Grade 1 Australian Championships in Adelaide, 2000.
Alistair returned to Nunawading as Drum Major in June 2001, with his brother Danny as Pipe Major. As he did at Williamstown, he has established a very strong drum corps. Current Victorian and Australian Champions. He is also actively involved in the teaching of learners, drumming workshops and solo competition in Australia.
These achievements rank Alistair Boyle as one of the top percussionists in Australia today. At only 23 years old, he is regarded as a future leader in drums and percussion.
